Well hello there again! I'm back to this time talk a little about 3D modelling and UV unwrapping, We want quite a particular style for Super Street Skate, hard edges and block colours being right at the front of our design! A few of the challenges are knowing what level of detail needs to be on the model and what should be left as texture work.
I kept the poly count quite low intentionally, one reason being with fewer polygons we can get away with pumping out more actors on screen at once and the other being I quite like the style of low polygon models. It allows for sharper edges which made UV unwrapping and texturing that much easier.
The image above shows how I unwrapped the model to apply the toon styled texture. I broke the model down from each side, (left, right, top, bottom, boot, bonnet and grill) keeping all these parts separate I knew where each seam would overlap, allowing me to add the black lines and not have them facing the wrong way or skewed.
The model isn't done quite yet, the textures could use a little more detail but other than that I'm rather chuffed with how it looks. Things are coming together nicely and if we decide to go ahead with this style, I can work on the whole other host of vehicles we need.
Just as a small update for last weeks Power Logo competition, the correct answers were as follows!
1 - Chain Lightning.
2 - Car Proof Vest.
3 - Ignore Projectiles.
4 - Super Speed.
As always! Check out our Facebook and Twitter if you haven't already.
